Organized each year during the winter, Nice Carnival lasts two weeks and includes three animated week-ends!
Each year in February, Nice adopts the Carnival spirit. Its many visitors enjoy shows, music, danse and street art, in a unique atmosphere. In 2009, 1,2 million people attended the event. Needless to say, it requires great organization!
During Nice Carnival, twenty 12-meter long, 3-meter wide and 8 to 14 meter high floats are displayed in town. Leading the procession, the King, Queen, “Carnavalon” and “Soufflerie” floats are the first ones to be applauded.
About 150 pasted cardboard huge heads are prepared to parade in the streets. Dozens of street art troupes perform everywhere in town, including bands specialized in regional music, to keep traditions alive.
Nice Carnival also welcomes artists from 15 different countries. The most impressive figure? Each Carnival equals twenty tons of confetti!
