For everybody from honeymooners to historians, Paris is known for romance.

Paris, also known as the city of lights, is a top tourist destination and is also the capital and largest city in France. A Paris honeymoon is a dream come true for many of the millions of tourists that visit this historic metropolis each year. And for many more, romantic Paris is a dream waiting to come true. Walking arm in arm over one of the many historic bridges that cross the Seine river may seem like a cliché and companies are always looking for new ways to improve Paris sightseeing tours. Taking into consideration the multitude of sites to visit, the size of the city, the bustling traffic and the desire for authenticity Paris tours need to be chosen with care in order to make the most out of a trip.

Wallking down the famous Avenue des Champs-Élysées from the Arc de Triomphe towards the city center, tourists, with their maps open are abundant and everywhere. How will they make romantic Paris romantic for them and more importantly, how will you make it romantic for you? More planning equals less adventure and less planning in this city filled with tourist traps means you might end up eating an overpriced hamburger (without the bun) and ice cream in a falsely authentic restaurant decorated with reprints of advertisements from the 1950s and empty bottles of wine in one of the touristy quarters like Saint-Germain-des-Prés. Not even the French fries are French! What kind of Paris sightseeing tour makes it possible to see everything you dreamed of without feeling like you are part of a herd of tourists? Romance it seems requires authenticity.

The Citroën 2CV is an authentic French car with a long history and a new role

Production of the Citroën 2CV began in 1948 and continued until 1990 with over five million copies sold in Europe and elsewhere. It would have been hard to imagine during the time of its design that it would be used the following century for Paris private tours. Refitted of course, the 2CVs available for Paris tours by Paris Authentic are all convertibles and have see-through tops in winter. These cars, accompanied by a real Parisian driver, with his French beret create a real sense of authenticity. The driver knows every corner of Paris and is full of anecdotes and useful information. The luxury is the combination of the authenticity and the variety of the Paris private tours that are offered along with escaping the flocks of tourists and not having to worry about the details (traffic, maps, itineraries, choosing a restaurant, etc…).

Combining the “must sees” with unexpected surprises is the best way to visit Paris

A wide variety of choices are available from Paris Authentic. This company, dedicated to providing authentic tours of Paris in restored Citroën 2CVs, will take you to all of the best sites and then some. The tours range from one hour to the entire day and most often begin at the the front door of your hotel. Packages combining boat rides on the Seine river, shows at the Moulin Rouge or the Lido, wine tasting, of course shopping, and many others with an itinerary in a 2CV are designed to meet the desires of any visitor. A Paris honeymoon can be complimented with the Paris Romantic tour which features Montmartre, Sacré Cœur, Moulin Rouge, Pigalle, Opéra Garnier, and the Pyramide du Louvre among others renowned sites.

If you are looking to reach the outskirts of Paris and beyond, four hour excursions to Versailles and Chantilly are available. Full day trips can be customized to meet specific needs or desires. And if you are not sure what to do or think you have seen it all, try the Unsuspected tour and see what has been hiding on Paris’s less frequented streets. The panoramic views from a traditional Citroën 2CV will give you a nontraditional perspective of this magnificent city.

A Citroën 2CV with an English speaking driver will get you to the best sites in Paris

A holiday in Paris can be made a lot simpler with an English speaking driver from Paris Authentic. What better way to visit Paris than by being picked up at your hotel in an authentic French car. All of the Citroën 2CVs in Paris Authentic’s fleet are convertibles and are equipped in winter with a see-through roof. With a panoramic view, you will get a good look at the Eiffel tower and won’t miss any of Notre-Dame’s famous gargoyles.
Why would you want to cruise Paris in a Citroën 2CV painted in the colors of the French flag? It seems that for many tourists, this top European destination, with its rich historical patrimony, is a way to travel back in time and is complimented well by a vehicle that is a little retro – not to mention the driver with his traditional Parisian beret.

Choose the package that is best for you

Paris city tours by Paris Authentic are available in many different themes for daytime and night time visits starting from one hour to the whole day.
With the Paris Classics Tour you will discover Paris through its most famous sites. The tour is a two hour ride through this legendary city’s narrow streets. You will see the Avenue des Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and Saint Germain des Prés among other renowned sites.

Get off the beaten path and discover Paris in a way that many tourists never get the chance to do during their holiday in Paris. Paris Authentic has a Paris city tour called Paris Unsuspected Tour where you can find what you never would have suspected to be part of this top tourist destination. The main goal is to help you find Paris’s hidden destinations. Get to know places such as Place des Vosges, Passage Sully and Port de l’Arsenal among other less frequented sites.

So little time, so much to do

Getting around in Paris can be tricky and just planning your day can be even more complicated. Why not let Paris Authentic plan your day and make sure you don’t get stuck in traffic or get on the wrong metro? One of their two full day offers would be a great way to visit Paris and see and do as much as possible. Just give them your ideas and they will be happy to customize the itinerary for you.

A typical day could begin with a visit to the famous Cathedral Notre Dame and the neighbouring quarters. Hop in your 2CV and in a few breathtaking minutes you will be walking through the Luxembourg Gardens where you might run into a French senator. Then off you go as fast as your Citroën can take you to see a few more nearby sites including the Louvre, the Royal Palace and the golden roof of the Invalides before arriving at the Champs de Mars park in time to have a picnic in front of the Eiffel Tower where you will have a spectacular view of the capital. A rustic French meal is provided including a traditional baguette, camembert, charcuterie, and of course a bottle of red wine!

France’s La Fête de la Musique becomes an international phenomenon as more countries pick up the tune.

June 21 is the Summer Solstice, and the first day of summer in much of the world. But in France, since 1982, it has also been the date of La Fête De La Musique (Music Festival), a day dedicated to the celebration, and performance, of music. Concerts are held all over France, many of them free. And musicians of all stripes take to the streets and perform impromptu on sidewalks and in restaurants. It’s a day to enjoy, celebrate, listen to and make music.

The one-day event, which began as an informal grass roots movement, has grown to be one of France’s best loved holidays and has gone somewhat establishment with corporate sponsors and televised events. Now, it has also gone global, with 350 cities aorund the world dancing to France’s tune and holding their own versions on La Fête De La Musique.

France brings La Fête de La Musique to China

In Shanghai, hundreds of music lovers and curious thronged public spaces, temples and grand homes to hear different kinds of music in celebration of France day at the Shanghai World expo. It was the first time that the Fête de La Musique has been held in China. Listeners were treated to music of all styles played by musicians of all ages. People were amazed, as street poerformances in China are very rare, as are indeed all public displays and demonstrations in the restrictive atmosphere propagated by the Chinese government.

France’s Minister of Culture and the inventor of the event, Jack Lang, expressed pleasure at the adoption of La Fête de La Musique by China this year and hopes that it will become a yearly tradition as it is in France.

In Europe, La Fête De La Musiquehas been invading countries outside France for years. In Rome, for example, it is a beloved annual tradition that still retains in French flavor.

Marie Beréngère Chapoton, Managing Director of Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese states, “Every year many businesses, companies and authorities take part in putting together the Music Festival, adding to the international development of the event”. “ Because of our strong liaison with France, we have chosen to help develop and spread this event event in Italy, aware that music is for all people and cultures.”

In Italy, the AIPFM – Italian Association for Promotion of the Music Festival – together with the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities, has made an agreement to involve as many cities as possible in Italy and to coordinate relations with other European countries. At present Siena, Modena, Lucca, Arco Val di Ledro and Rivolitake place in the event. An agreement between the French and Italian Ministry of Culture has been approved aimed at promoting artistic trade between the two countries and to give more visibility over the border to the artists involved. In the beautiful setting of the Cuisine & Lounge La Terrasse in Sofitel Rome Villa Borghese, deeply tied to French cultural activities, an elegant evening of music will be held.. Antonella Aprea’s concert for 80 invited guests will take place in the early evening on the spectacular panoramic terrace overlooking Villa Borghese.

Similar events are being arranged in cities all across Europe…and now the world.

Cannes loses stars to conflicts, surgery, dissent

Oscar-winner Sean Penn has bowed out of appearing at the Cannes premiere of his new film “Fair Game” because the actor has been called to testify at a US Senate hearing on the Haiti earthquake. Penn, who helped the relief effort after the Haiti quake in January, has been asked to appear before a US Senate committee later this week to give an account of the devastation he saw in the Caribbean island nation.

In “Fair Game”, which premieres at Cannes on Thursday, May 20, Penn plays the lead male role in Doug Liman’s “Fair Game”, which also stars Naomi Watts as the real-life CIA agent whose identity was illegally revealed in 2003, sparking a crisis for the administration of US president George W. Bush.

Penn is the latest big name to cancel his appearance at the festival after French New Wave film legend Jean-Luc Godard announced at the last minute Monday that he would not attend the premiere here of his “Film Socialism”. The French icon said he was unable to attend “following problems of a Greek type” — whether budgetary or Greek-style tragedy was unclear. References to ancient Greece, including Sophocles, Pericles and Euclid are peppered through “Film Socialism”, which releases this week in theatres and can be downloaded on the Internet Monday and Tuesday.

Ridley Scott, the director of the big-budget movie “Robin Hood” that opened the festival last week, could not attend due to knee surgery. In his absence, Universal dispatched a major delegation to support the movie, including producer Brian Gazer and the major cast, namely Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett, Mark Strong, Oscar Isaac and Max Von Sydow. The film received mixed reviews from Cannes attendees.

Director Aamir Khan will also skip the famed Cannes Fest where his film “Peepli Live” is being showcased, although it is not in competition.

Some luminaries are not attending for political reasons. Italian culture minister Sandro Bondi announced that he would skip Cannes, the world’s most prestigious film festival, because the program included “Draquila: Italy Trembles,” a documentary on the 2009 earthquake in L’Aquila. The film, he charged, “insults the truth and the entire Italian population.” Mr. Bondi’s absence is again raising questions about Italian Prime Minster Silvio Berlusconi’s ability to crush dissent by controlling the media in Italy.

Pal Sarkozy is the 82-year-old father of French President Nicolas Sarkozy, but he is more– a painter, and an outspoken controversial figure in France. Last February, Sarkozy père joined with a German computer artist for a show of joint art creations in the capital of his native Hungary.

“Out of Mind” was the title of the exhibition of more than 80 pictures by Sarkozy senior and his long-time colleague, computer artist Werner Hornung, The show was held in the Abigail art gallery in downtown Budapest and was a big hit, drawing serious art enthusiasts and the curious as well. Five or six pictures were snapped up in the first two days of the exhibition by anonymous buyers. After a two-and-a-half week stint in Budapest, the show went to Szolnok, near Sarkozy ‘s home village of Nagybocs, then to Cairo, Paris and finally Marrakech.

The pieces displayed included original drawings by Sarkozy senior and around 50 “giclee” art prints jointly created by him and Hornung and were selling for prices between 3,000-14,000 euros (4,120-19,220 dollars at the time) apiece. Giclee prints are ink-jet-based digital prints that are nearly indistiguishlable from the original in many cases.

Pal Sarkozy, who worked as a graphic designer until he retired in 1995, provided the original sketches, which Hornung then digitalised and manipulated on his computer. Sarkozy then took back the images and worked on them again using real paint, and the final images were then scanned back into the computer and printed off in a limited edition.

How does Sarkozy senior find his inspiration for his fanciful images? “The most important is to find the idea, then I do a drawing, which goes into the computer. Then we start putting in the colors and adding the backgrounds. After the picture is assembled, I paint on it some more,” Sarkozy said.

The French president’s father has been earning a living as a visual artist his entire adult life. He left Hungary in 1948 and made a living with his drawings, before becoming a graphic designer in an advertising company.

Two pieces in the show were not for sale, however: a portrait of Nicolas Sarkozy which the father presented to the subject, his son, when the latter was elected president; and a portrait of Carla Bruni, which was a wedding gift to the presidential couple. Apparently the Sarkozys of the Elysee Palace loaned these back to the artist, interesting in the light of rumors of a longtstanding rift between father and son.

EezeeRator gives passengers the power to share info and impressions of airline service, compare fares and more in real time.

Want to complain about the rude flight attendant who is ignoring you? The lousy or overpriced in-flight food? Your four-hour delay sitting on the tarmac with not so much as a honey-roasted peanut in sight? There’s an app for that.

The free travel android application by Air Valid, called EzeeRator, gives power to the people — that is, the passengers — by allowing them a real-time forum to voice their rants and raves about over 1200 different airlines in real time. Their communications are posted to the Eezeer home page and also to their own Twitter accounts. Besides simply positing their thoughts, the app allows travellers to rate thei experience based on a number of criteria such as staff attitude, pucntuality, cleanliness of the plane. etc. using a system of stars. Other travellers can use the information and reviews — in seven languages! — to make judgments on which airlines to choose and which to shun as they shop for flights. EzeeRator, which also has a desktop version, has just been made available also as a free travel iphone application.

But EzeeRator does much more than simply allow travelers to vent. The app calls itself the Ultimate Airfare Search Engine, and it may well be. It lets you use you mobile device to search for the best travel deals and make online reservations for your next flight with Mobissimo. For those with heavy luggage, the app also has a relationship with FirstLuggage, to allow you to arrange for luggage pickup and dropoff.

EzeeRator could spell the end of frustrating airport delays…by making waiting for your flight much more interesting. For people looking to hook up on the road, EzeeRator lets travelers sign into their Twitter accounts, and also, through an agreement with boarding.fr in France (and other similar sites elsewhere) find other bored or stranded people in transit near you so you can grab a meal or a chat together in the airport. If you’re feeling green, there’s even a function that lets you buy carbon offset credits to make up for the jet fuel you’ll expend when you finally do get airborne.

Once you’re in flight, for airlines offering in-flight wifi, you can post a blow-by-blow description — and even photos and videos — of your experience from takeoff to landing to both EzeeRator’s own travel mobile social network EEZEER and to your Twitter account, where hopefully the airline will take some notice. Considering that hundreds of airlines have Twitter accounts, and over 100 of them follow @eezeer or @airvalid, it seems as if they are listening already.

Smartphone customers can learn more and find links to download the free for iphone or android at http://eezeerator.com/

Since 2007, Air Valid has provided information on over 1200 airlines, with hundreds of of thousands of certified comments on 47,000 flight numbers. The company provides a comprehensive comparison on in-flight entertainment for 157 airlines.

New site offers unparalleled access to celebrity psychics via the internet

In ancient cultures, astrologers and seers were the trusted advisers to kings. As time wore on, though, the practice fell out of favor, and up until a few years ago consulting a psychic came to be considered the exclusive realm of the naive, superstitious or those heavily into occult or New Age practices. However, today as more and more is becoming known about the spiritual and energy world, psychics have joined the mainstream. They are routinely used by police departments in the US and UK to help solve crimes, in business to help determine a company’s course of aciton and more and more ordinary people are turning to psychics for answers in their own lives, or as a kind of therapy. It is now widely accepted that all people have some psychic abilities; those who have made it their profession have a more highly attuned psychic sense, as, say a perfumer or wine critic would have a more sensitive nose than the rest of us.

Traditionally, the way to consult with a psychic was face-to-face. Later on, may psychics began to offer telephone consultations as a way to serve clients remotely. The internet boom has now made it possible for people to consult psychics in a variety of ways, 24/7 from any location. One website that has really taken this idea and run with it is www.psychics-solutions.com. It boasts a stable of particiapting psychics with a wide range of gifts and specialties. Not only does the site offer its members round-the-clock consultations, the online delivery of Psychic-Solutions gives any user unprecedented access to world-famous psychics from all over the world, no matter where they live. Australia’s Psychic of the Year is one of the “star psychics” featured on the site, with others
known from radio or TV and more coming online all the time. All the psychics on the site are thoroughly vetted for competency before being admitted to the faculty.

The site offers three ways to receive your consultation: email consultation, in which the member mails in the question, the psychic consults his or her guides or intuition and sends a message back; group readings, in which several people participate at once and ask their questions in turn; and the revolutionary two-way one-on-one private video chat.

The two-way video chat, made possible by microphones, webcams and VoIp technology similar to Skype, allows both parties to see and hear each other as if they were in the same room. Besides being a more intimate and relatable ay to do the consultation, with the ability for both parites to see the other, psychics can also display charts, cards and other visual aids to the client. It is the first time that psychics and clients can connect remotely using a service that delivers an experience that is so close to a face-to-face reading.

Psychics have a wide array of specialties; some are psychic mediums, many of whom can channel the thoughts and voices of beings in the spirit world, others focus on astrology, interpreting a chart for the client. Some psychics use Tarot cards or rune stones to give clairvoyant readings. Besides the methods they employ to connect to their gifts and share their finding with clients, psychics have different specialties dealing with personal issues such as relationships, money, career, life purpose, even the feelings and thoughts of your pets! When choosing a psychic, it is important to consider this specialty first, and how it relates to your questions, as well as what methods you feel an affinity for, wheter it be Tarot cards, astrology, crystals or other techniques.

One aspect that is unique about Psychic-Solutions is the ability to form a relationship over time with a trusted psychic. Rather than encouraging one-off visits, (though these are possible) the site offers greater value and ongoing support with monthly and three-month memberships, which allow members continued and unlimited access to certain levels of service for free, such as participation in pre scheduled group readings, while giving them substantial discounts on paid services such as private video consults. Curious seekers can try before they buy, with a one-day trial membership for one euro that gives a taste of how
membership to the site works. Even non-members can sign up to receive a free daily horoscope by email.

Because the internet never closes, on Psychic-Solutions clients can consult a psychic 24/7. For those wanting to consult with a particular practitioner, however, the site displays detailed bios and gives “office hours” for each psychic (they vary widely) showing their availability for one-on-one video consultations, as well as their rates per minute, generally between $2 and $6. Payment is in “shapies,” a “currency” created for the site, for which the member prepays and reloads their account as the shapies are used. Because of the company’s commitment to betterment of the Earth, a portion of all membership fees and payments to individual psychic is donated to the World Wildlife Federation (WWF).

For those looking for guidance or answers that are “out of the world”, or just for fun, there is now no easier, more economical or more practical way to sample the services of professional psychics.

Psychic-Solutions.com offers 24/7 consultation with psychics by email, group chat or private video chat. The site was founded by Shape72, Ltd., a company that offers an online delivery system to help service providers deliver their services online to those all around the world. A portion of all earnings of Psychic-Solutions and Shape72 Ltd is donated to the World Wildlife Federation.

US fast food giant McDonald’s plans to set up shop in the world’s most famous museum by end of 2009

France symbolizes many things in the world, most of all its elegant cuisine and its fine art. So it’s no wonder that more than a few Parisians are fed up about plans to open a McDonald’s restaurant and McCafé in the Louvre museum in November.

The world’s most-visited museum will soon see France’s 1,142nd McDonald’s restaurant sharing real estate with the Mona Lisa and Venus de Milo. The fast food chain, considered by many in France as a symbol of both American culinary crassness and cultural imperialism, is celebrating its 30th anniversary in France this year.

To make matters even worse for lovers of French food and long lunches, traditional brasseries and bistros are in freefall from lack of business, while fast food giant McDonald’s opened 30 new stores last year in France and fed 450 million customers – an 11 percent rise from the previous year.

Museum staff, many already miffed about the Louvre’s plans to lend its name and artwork to a multi-million dollar museum project in Abu Dhabi, are reported to be experiencing indigestion already from the prospect of the golden arches in France’s temple of fine art. Some have been quoted, anonymously, in the press complaining bitterly about the commercialism — and the smells — that the new “McDo” will bring to one of the world’s greatest art meccas.

To be fair, the McDonald’s will not be in the museum itself, but positioned in the underground approach to the Louvre, known as the Carrousel du Louvre. This area is already lined with shops and eateries, though most are admittedly more upscale than McDonald’s. The stone-lined gallery, which is owned and operated separately from the museum, opened in 1993, five years after the famous Louvre pyramid, which also caused a great deal of controversy at first. The Carrousel’s contract with the Louvre Museum states that “commercial activities will be regulated and restricted to cultural or tourist activities”. The Louvre has the right to protest against commercial establishements that it thinks fall short of this standard. However, the museum has agreed to a “quality” McDonald’s that will open by the end of the year, with a look that will be “in line with the museum’s image”. The Louvre envisions the McDonald’s as part of the American section of a new food court in the Carrousel that would feature foods from countries around the world, to be welcoming to visitors of all nationalities. Museum spokespeople also insist that the franchise owner has pledged to make this particular McDonald’s a work of art, with decor and atmosphere worthy of its elegant new home.

Louvre Pour Tous, (Louvre for All) a website whose mission is to “inform and defend” visitors to the Louvre, complained: “Henri Loyrette, president of the Louvre museum, had only to say one word to stop the aroma of French fries from wafting past the Mona Lisa’s nose. He chose otherwise.” The McDonald’s brouhaha follows a similar outcry last year when Starbucks opened a location near the museum’s entrance. At the time, Louvre employees and art lovers sent museum management a petition to try to stop Starbucks from opening there. It opened anyway; in an act of conciliation, Starbucks agreed to provide a cultural corner in the store of brochures and art catalogues as an acknowledgment of its lofty surroundings. But for many, this was not enough to offset the insult of supersized coffee in cardboard cups in close proximity with the gods of fine art.

And now, the ultimate symbol of American dominance and culinary heresy has dealt the French culture police an even crueler blow. “Starbucks was bad enough but McDonald’s is worse,” said an unnamed Louvre art historian. Ten years ago, French hatred of McDonald’s and all it represents made a hero of José Bové, who bulldozed a McDonald’s in 1999 in protest against US imperialism and bad food.

But it seems he bulldozed in vain. Even a last-minute reprieve at the Louvre would not turn the tide in the battle of Le Big Mac. According to the fast-food chain, France has become McDonald’s biggest market in the world outside of the US, and it’s not going anywhere…except to the world’s most famous museum of art.

Tens of thousands of pieces in the Louvre collection are now researchable in English, thanks to the American Friends of the Louvre.

Not being able to read French is no longer an obstacle to poring over the entire collection of the Louvre. English-speaking visitors to Louvre.fr will now be able to do more than just check on current exhibitions. The museum has made an English-language version of its online database, cataloguing the entire collection of Louvre, available on its Web site, louvre.fr. The enormous undertaking was the passion project of the group American Friends of the Louvre, which provided a $380,000 grant for the Anglophone database. The database, called Atlas, will provide information on 22,000 works of art from the Louvre by the end of 2009, as well as high-resolution images and the locations of works and galleries within the museum. These include over 3300 paintings, 4000 Greek and Roman antiquities, 5500 works of decorative art, and much more. The collection of works on the English version representsabout 80 percent of the works available onthe French-language version of Atlas, which catalogs 26,000 of the 35,000 works on permanent display at the Louvre. New images are currently being added to the database, which is constantly updated.

American Friends of the Louvre (AFL),a non-profit, was founded in December 2002 to strengthen ties between the Louvre and its American public. Its primary goals are to support the Louvre in its efforts to improve educational tools and visiting conditions, particularly for American and other English-speaking visitors, which include the translation of labels and Atlas, the online database. AFL also promotes collaborations between the Louvre and American institutions through the development of cultural activities in the U.S., such as exhibitions, educational programs and professional and scholarly exchanges. Lastly, AFL participates in the financing of Louvre projects, such as renovations of galleries, restorations of antiquities, fellowships, and educational programs both in France and the U.S.
